I have 2 of these on a frag I bought for $5.00, it first contained a mushroom, which I propagated 2 more shrooms from and watched them grow. Then, I saw these two small red things growing from the side. As I watched them, I saw they had a "mouth" type object in the middle, and immediately thought I had two more mushrooms growing. Yesterday, my turbo knocked the frag over, and upon picking it up I felt one of the two "growths", and it was hard as a rock, "calcified" and I've been watching it grow, which shows there is life inside it.

Anybody have a clue what it could be???
It's the thing on the right side of the frag, opposite the mushroom...
Looks like an upward red tube...
Nothing ever comes out of it, except for some slime every now and then, no dusters or anything

Why are they a nuisance? Clearly I'm not arguing, just curious of what's growing in my tank...

They are good filter feeders, as long as they stay away from coral and desirables, but they spread pretty fast, and for me they always end up right next to the coral. certain species of wrasse will pick them though.
