I saw a Red Coris Wrasse - Juvenile listed on saltwaterfish.com and was wondering if this is the same fish that omard listed on the fish of the month as Yellowtail Coris Wrasse in June? Here is a pic of the one on saltwaterfish.com

Yep, exactly same fish in juvenile colors...

    a.k.a.
    Yellowtail Coris Wrasse
    Gaimard's Wrasse
    Clown Wrasse
    Red Coris Wrasse

I know of no other fish that makes such a striking change in appearance as it matures.

    Juveniles usually quite inexpensive.

Only drawback to this fish is that it will try to rearrange your tank for you. But if you have stable rock and give it some small rocks in front to "play" with, is no problem at all.

The LFS sold me this fish as a yellow coris wrasse a few months ago. Is this also the same fish?

Ummm, certainly not same as "YellowTail" Coris...

I am not so sure that fish in pic is even a Yellow Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus)...[IMG]

Search "Yellow Coris Wrasse" in google and see if same fish...:-/

Gets along with all fish in tank, including Mandarin.

May be a pod hunter. Always flipping over rocks looking for something to eat...but may be looking for something else..

But is a voracious eater of anything else that goes in tank.

Plenty of pod hunting room in rest of rock for Mandarin and Scooter Blenny which is too solid for Coris to mess with.

Tendency to flip rocks easily controlled by keeping a pile of small rocks in front of tank for it to "play" with.

I just rearrange them now and then and Coris seems satisfied with moving these around.

I did that beforehand, and yes. The pic I posted was a result of that search. I asked because I've seen pictures of "yellow coris wrasses" that were all sorts of colors , including the ones pictured above (all of them.)

Perhaps it's a color phase? I don't really expect it to change colors, though. I'm confused!

ReefSparky, yours is a Canary Wrasse or Golden Wrasse Halichoeres chrysus. Commonly called a yellow coris wrasse although not a member of the Coris genus. It will stay mostly yellow like that, with some more colors appearing on its face as it matures ( or maybe thats the difference between male and females...not 100% positive on that one).

I'm planning on picking one up in a couple months...how do you like yours?

Thanks for clearing that up, MaMoL!

I like him a lot! He's always busy. He doesn't touch the corals, although a few have told me these are NOT reef safe fish. He frequents the lower edges of the glass near the sand, where he's busy picking pods off the surfaces.

Each night when the halides go off my wife and I wait to see how long he takes to dive bomb into his hole, as these fish sleep submerged in the sand. Sometimes he takes only 30 seconds, sometimes he's taken as long as 5 minutes. He's a real entertainer. ;D

I have a red coris wrasse in my tank as well =)

This one was my dad's pick and I wasn't happy at first, but when I took a look at it's adult stage, I better accepted it, and now I'm okay with him. I named him Guss =3

I didn't realize until I just read one of the stickies, that this fish was considered one of the more difficult ones due to tank size requirements? My wrasse is in a 110gal tank o_o and it really doesn't look like it has the potential to become huge. How large can this thing really get?
