Any of you guys have experience with these? I'm really looking to add one but am hesitant because liveaquaria says they are aggressive and not reef safe... Meanwhile my friend that has one keeps his with cleaner shrimp.

Can I get some experiences with these guys please? Do they eat shrimp, snails, crabs?

when somethign says "with caution" it means that it will eat fish/ shrimps if hungry. when it says "not reef safe" it means that it will eat coral and fish/shrimp. at least thats what i think it means.

These wrasses, while beautiful, are something I would never even attempt to put in a reef. They will eat shrimp, corals, clams, basically anything they want to eat.

I'm not Horkn but I can answer your question. :)

The Cirrhilabrus (fairy wrasses) and Paracheilinus (flasher wrasses) are all reef safe and most are non-aggressive (there are a couple exceptions).

I was considering christmas wrasse which are a type of fairy wrasse... but the coloration seems to vary greatly between pictures I have seen so I am still somewhat hesitant :/

Actually a christmas wrasse is a halichoeres wrasse. Those are awesome fish to have in a reef tank, especially if you have clams as they eat pyramellid snails that kill clams.

AFIAK, there are at least 7 varieties of christmas wrasse depending on what island group they come from.

Some are more red than others, others are more green, but I have yet to see one I didn't like.

Another awesome halichoeres if you can find one is a radiant wrasse. I have a radiant in my 200g and it is my favorite fish.

I had a christmas wrasse in my 90g, but my mean indigo dottyback pestered it to death.

fairy wrasses are cool too, but don't eat flatworms or pyramellid snails like halichoeres wrasses do, so they are more of a pretty thing that doesn't dp much beside look nice. I say of all the halichoeres wrasses the christmas and the radiant are the best looking, and I would say a melanurus would be up in the top 3 as well.
