I agree, you can always try and haggle him down some. That's a little bit much for that wrasse, but it's still really pretty.

Macropharyngodon wrasses are some of the more difficult wrasses to keep, FYI. Make sure you understand their care requirements before trying this.

Filamented flashers are potentially some of the more aggressive flasher wrasses. Almost any other flasher would be better (Carpenters, Yellow Fin, Red Tail, Blue, McCoskers) AFAIK. The good news is that most flashers are quite similar in color and form, with a few exceptions. Even ones that aren't so expensive.

Christmass wrasses are one of the more delicate shippers in the halichoeres genus. I thought about one of these but if you can find a nice Melanurus wrasse they are very similar and IMO can be even prettier than some of the Christmas wrasses. In fact I think a lot of times these wrasses are misidentified as one another because they can look so similar. These are fish I wouldn't buy sight unseen though because they can be so variable. The large male Melanurus can be quite stunning, if you get a smaller female you may not be as happy with their coloration and I'm not sure what chances you have for them changing to a nice colored male in captivity are.

    Hope that helps.
