I just got this star 3 days ago and now I noticed a tear on the top side of his flesh. Should I just wait and see? I don't want him to get somewhere in the tank that I can reach and then die.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
In a 46 gallon tank the death of that size of a star fish would not make any impact on the water quality.

There is nothing your can do in the way of providing treatment to the injury.

For these 2 reasons I would not be concerned.

You don't think I should remove him before it gets worse? He is about 2-3 inches across

You can tell if a star fish is dying, when they develop grey areas, and begin to melt.

It does not sound like it is currently dying.

Just keep an eye on it or move it to the sump.

IMO this is a wait and watch situation.

I got the same starfish. With in a few days of getting it, it shed several red beads in the tank. It's been 6 months and it still looks healthy. It may be an acclimating thing, I wouldn't worry

HE started getting a nice size hole in the middle of him. My nitrates were at 20 which I found out yesterday. I threw him out as he was not moving on the rock and a hermit crab was starting to be on him.
