Ok I know its not cyno it is definitely red hair algae. It will not come off the rock. I have used a bristle brush to get it off and poof its back. Has a strong flow blasting on it and keeps on growing back. Is this a sign of bad lighting as the bulbs are newish but were cheap. I only feed twice a week now for the past month or so. My phosphates are .25 and can't get it to go lower than that. I run SeaChem PhosGaurd and SeaChem SeaGel in my canister. Any thoughts. I want to get this red hair algae gone.

Its GODS plague for us reefers!!!

When my tank gets this stuff it usually hangs around for about 2 weeks then dies off. I dont think it is lights alone or it would not have the nutreints to grow out. It sounds like you are already doing what you can, but you could do some water changes if you arent already.

The numbers your phosphate test shows are actually higher because of the phosphates that are being used to grow the algae within your tank. In other words if that algae would die off (for some reason) you would show a spike in phosphates.

Is a phosphate reactor in order here and is there anything else I can do? Anyone?

Either a phosphate reactor or a fuge. I prefer a fuge with some chaeto, mangroves, or caulerpa (or some combo thereof). I'm using Mangroves and Caulerpa in my sump/fuge and I have 0 Nitrates and 0 Phosphates.

Asparagopsis (cotton candy algae) is quite annoying. It doesn't require much in the way of nutrients to expand. Herbivores are the best method of controlling it.
