I have several spots of what seems like red hair algae.
It only grows on my gravel not on any rocks.
The hairs are not long like green hair algae (I had that problem already)
but are short and it seems to grow rapidly.
When I brush over the gravel it just comes back the next day.
    anyone any ideas ?????

I believe it's cyano bacteria (aka red slime algae). I have the same problem right now. It's all over my sand and has long 'hairs.' It's caused by high phosphate levels and high nitrate levels in the water. I've been told over-feeding and lack of flow are common reasons cyano pops up. What I'm currently doing, and it seems to have cut the cyano in half, is reducing my feeding, doing weekly water changes and I also added a power head.

    I don't feed anything.
I only have mushroom coral, 3 hermit crabs, one turbo snail , 5 nerite snails and 10 dwarf cerith all in 10 gallon tank with one powerhead and one powerfilter.
should i get one more powerhead and if so should I place it one top or bottom??

you should face the power head towards the spot wehre the cyano is because that is the area with the least flow. by doing this it should go away

I to have had to battle with red hair alage for a while it comes back every once in a while with my new lighting system I think I have really given it a chance to thrive so I am gonig to try and get the korilia pumps maybe a #2 or #3 not to sure which would be best for my 60 gallon? I already have two #1's but they dont seem to be doing enough.
