So im starting to get LOTS of red hair algea in my refugium. Covering the glass and sand bottom, none on the live rock. Its a diy 20 gal i built about 4 months ago. Just recently, maybe over the past week or two, this red hair algea has stared growing out of control, mostly over the past couple of days. I did have a problem with my chaeto dying but i beleive that problem is resolved. Other than that nothing has changed in the tank, water parameters are perfect as always. Anything to worry about? There isnt any algea in my display, just the refugium, should i just let it keep growing?
    Thanks,

Myself. I would get it out of there..though some micro algae are benificial, especially in the sump, I would say....not RHA...JMO.
What is your lighting sched. for your fuge? Do you light it? 24/7, or just during days, or do you do the recommended reverse daylight?
I run mine reverse daylight...It is when your micro algea and bio system can perform at max performance due to the toxins being released at the highest rate during the lunar, or low lite/nite time hours. Dont know if thats your issue at all...but too much lite down there can muck things up...
    Hope that made sense...
    Good luck,
    LG

    Thanks Grandad,
I do run run the light 24/7. Thats what my guy at the lfs told me was best for the chaeto. The weird thing is that for about the past 3-4 months, the RHA hasn't been a problem at all. In fact ive never seen it in either tank...ever. Seems like it just appeared overnight. I can try to get it out if you think thats best. Not even sure where to start lol. Its everywhere!
    Thanks again,

If your running 24/7 then I'd say ...clean it all out of there and put your lite on a timer to go on in the evening just an hour or so before your lunars...then have it shut down sometime in the AM...its not crazy critical on the time...just oppposite the display..know what I mean?...things should work out...and get some more cheato. : )
