I had Turbo Setosus (ping pong ball size) for the longest time in my tank and well, he finally died but not before gifting the tank with enough of himself to cause a massive cyano outbreak. The upside to all this is that my mushrooms, xenia and polyp’s suddenly exploded with growth – enough so that I have to remove a bunch now. Anyway back to the story – today I went out and bought another one, much smaller, acclimated him and finally let him go in the tank - these are the only snails that seem to eat the red algae my tank gets. 3 minutes later my red legged hermit was all over him doing his best to eat him. Now I have at least 50 other Trochus snails that he never touches (at least not when I’m around). Anyway I broke it up and put him on the opposite side of the tank, 4 feet away... 2 minutes later he was back all over the snail. He just moved to the refugium, the beast was a hitchhiker anyway. If the snail is a goner I’ll move him back up and let him claim a new shell. Lesson learned...

The snail is out and he only moved about an inch in the last hour, new speed record? normally these guys are really quick but at least he did move. the hermit looks like he went into a sulk. The blue legged ones I have are considerably smaller and less destructive.
