Banned basically means that Microsoft had seen that the user was using the system with a pirated copy of a game and permanently bans the system serial number from using x-box live.

The e74 appears to be the an issue with the a/v connections. Im not certain but an article said its bad enough to where Microsoft will replace or refund the full purchase price of the unit.

Ahh, so a hacked xbox will play copied games, but it won't be ever allowed to use xbox live? I like the idea of competing against others with the live function.

Bill Gates is a smart man, but he must have been bullied as a kid or some other tragic events have happened. Otherwise how would you think of those things?
Maybe the tragic events re that he sees pirated SW and he wants to actually be able to stop it with the xbox because he can't do alot about it for computers?

I would love a ps3, but I don't want to spend 300. The new slim model won't play ps2 games either.

I've got both, each have their strengths - PS3 is quieter, probably more energy efficient, great graphics and Blu-Ray but it's way too easy to modify and I can't stand people flying around maps (in the air), and the terrible connections.

The 360 has great graphics, better controller (opinion, I know but I'm used to it) fantastic multiplayer, great networking (like being able to voice chat with friends, parties, etc) and great games. Downside is that multiplayer costs (well worth it) and the red ring of death (no issues yet).

Oh, and I'd buy new since Microsoft decided to slam the ban hammer down and ban a bunch of Xboxes entirely. CL is going to have some unscrupulous sellers that just want some money to buy a new Xbox now that theirs is banned...

I actually dont like the xbox controller if they had a PS style controller I'd be more tempted to get one there is some games on xbox I enjoy that arent available on ps3 but I cant stand the offset thumb controllers, and I have the classic premium ps3 the original 60gb system that could play ps2

Now the biggest issue isnt with the pirated software, cause with the new burner programs and hardware you can make the duplicate copy look exactly like the original in every way digitally. The issue is when you get these little kids on there that use the cheat and mod programs to give them super powers in the game. Its more of the hacking, but a bad pirated copy will get you banned quickly.

I have been playing COD on live at my friends house for the last 8 months and it is a pirated copy (not mine), havent had any issues.
