Red linkia starfish

just purchased a red linkia starfish for my 120g mix reef aquarium

Not a mistake. I'd say yes if were a blue Linkia, but the orange/red does well in an established reef with lots of live rock.

 

As long as you have plenty of algae to graze you should be ok. More importantly is to have very stable parameters and temperature. Once a week I feed my linkia a little meat and I've had mine for about 2 years. I place mysis under neath or a little piece of squid. My blue linkia is always out and about and always catches the eye. Good luck with yours, they are beautiful.

 

As in plenty of algae you mean just general film algae right? Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here.

 

Yes film algae, or even a bio-film, but you need larger surface area to produce enough bio-film so that the film replenishes sufficiently.

There is also some pretty cool videos of Linckia eating Asterina stars. I am not encouraging hobbyist to go and get a Linckia if you have an Asterina problem. I do not support the collection and sale of Blue Linckia.

 

I bought my linkia before I knew what I was getting into. I trusted a store that has closed down and made a rookie mistake. I think I've been 50% lucky with keeping my blue linkia. I do keep very stable parameters and I keep a very strict maintenance schedule as well. I do have a ton of asterina stars and I have seen my linkia eat some. All I do is try to keep up with this beautiful animals needs and I will never buy another again. I agree with Corailline 1000%
