    Are red mangroves the same as the mangroves in florida?

    Florida as mostly Red Mangroves but Black mangroves too. Be careful if you are thinking of harvesting them its a steep fine if there are roots in the ground.

    oh i know about that, i was just curios if the mangrove i purchased would ever grow that big :)

    probably not, though i've seen a 40g fuge with 4ft tall mangroves in it, thats the biggest. In all honesty you need alot of mangroves for any real nutrient exportation, but i think they are neat so I have some.

    I wasn't hoping for that, i just wanted one for the cool root system.give it a couple months i guess? how is the growth on yours?

    The roots or the stalk or both? at my LFS they grow 3 inches every month or two

    The roots on mine grow about 1 inch a month and I get a new leaf or two every 2 months or so. Pretty slow growth, but the pods love to crawl up and down the roots, so I like to keep a few in my 20g.
