A few weeks back I took my LEDs out and went back to my 6x80w T5 setup. All my corals bleached out under the LEDs. My Red Planet and monticap were particularly hit hard. But much to my great happiness their colors are starting to return. Here is my red planet today. 4 weeks ago it was totally white. Had good polyp extension but no color at all.

So what do you think caused the bleaching. Was it too much light?

Looks like it's making a good come back.

This just makes me more apprehensive about going LED.

Me too but I have seen some amazing tanks under LED. I honestly think people overdo it, especially with the blues. Running their blues at 100% because it looks cool but it bleaches coral. That's my theory anyway.

Yes too much light. I couldnt get the LEDs high enough due to the canopy on my tank and the center multichip LED was non adjustable.

AHHHHH I'm sorry. How tall is your canopy? Which fixture did you have?

Yeah I will stick to bleaching my SPS the old fashion way.

ibefishy, how long did you run the lighting weeks, months? And how many hours a day.

Canopy is 14" tall and lights could only be about 9" from the surface. The lights are the CadLights LEDs.
