i have an 8 gallon tank thats on its way to reef. there is currently a black perc clown and a gecko goby in it. the goby 1" has been picking on my clown. i was thinking of trading him in for a scooter blenny. would this be ok? i KNOW they have the same requirements as a mandarin, but my lfs said they take frozen and im going in to see if they do. there about .75" right now. if they take frozen foods and i supplement with some extra pods, would it be ok in my tank? sorry for the long post

BTW: i trust my lfs (there family owned) and they said that there scooters are always much easier to get onto frozen then mandarins. They have 2 mandarins in a 20 gal for about 2 years now. and they take frozen foods right from a turkey baster.

I would make the trade. I have had my scooter for about 6-7 months now and love him. Got him on frozen in less than 2 weeks. Great little fish.

Even if it takes frozen, you still have the same issues as keeping a mandarin in that small of a tank. There's going to be SERIOUS water quality issues to overcome, since you'd definitely need to feed multiple times per day, because it'll hunt all the pods very quickly. Plus, two fish in that small of a space will have cramping issues.

the reason for such a big tank with such a small fish is so the tank can support the pod population required for constant grazing of pods. If you were able to feed frozen food AND feed it several times a day, You could definitely keep one is a smaller tank, but 8 gallons? still seems a little small for either fish, much less both, IMHO.

I think it's a matter of water quality and cramp-ed-ness. I don't think either requirement can be met for either fish in an 8 gallon.
