How much time do you spend adjusting this skimmer. I thought I was buying a good skimmer, but I've read some not so positive articles after the fact about how you have to adjust it all the time.

How do you handle evaporated water in your tank? I found that if the water level goes up and down, skimmers go out of whack.

    Matt,
Well I was running freshwater for many years and I made a DIY floatswitch and used a 10 gallon tank as the holding tank for new water. It worked well.

I just setup my reef tank lastnight and going for live rock tomorrow. I haven't decided if I'm going to use that same method in the new reef tank. Its in my living and I must play it safe and make sure no overflows can occur. I don't think salt water is good for hardwood floors. :)

I don't see how a change in water level would effect performace unless the water goes below the pump and it sucks additional air into the skimmer.

Just something I've noticed. Perhaps pump flow rates are affected. Or it's the return from the skimmer. I'd use your DIY switch.

I have a red sea Classic and not until I put a MAG 500 on it did it do anything for me. It needs the injector cleaned alot. It still isn't the best one out there but for my 40G it's doing fine. I have the air valve open about 3/4. I never have to adjust it from there.

I think da_colts tricked out his Berlin with a ca 3300 pump and a wider air line hose. Birdlady might remember better, I think she did the same thing.

I'm going to run mine with a rio 3100.....I know not many people like those, but I have one and might as well use it. The only thing is it is loud as hell in my sump, I think its causing a vibration.......need to look into that tomorrow.

    Thanks guys for the reply

Every Pump I've ever attached to the Berlin Classic has turned from a quite pump to a very loud pump.
The Rio 3100 is about double the recomended gph needed for your skimmer I'm not sure if your going to blow the thing up :)

Maybe that is where the wider air hose helps.
