Yes, the bigger pump must keep the venturi cleaner because I did a routine, tear everything out, cleaning last weekend and there was nothing on my venturi at all! Clean as a whistle. ;)

Just out of curiousity the Surge 600 pumps look exactly like RIO pumps.....are they the same manufacturer?

no the surge is made by aquis and the rio is made by tamm. i think the surge is made to look like the rio so that you can use the surgr on things that rio's fit on i.e. aquamedic skimmers etc, the surge is a much better pump. the 1 on my skimmer has been running non stop for about a year with nary a skip, and i can't even hear it running. they are very good nicely priced pumps

interesting....my rio 3100 is pretty noisy in the sump so maybe I should look into picking one up.

I was running a Mag 9.5 on my Berlin Classic HO skimmer. It is very quiet and the upgrade in GPH really helped perfomance :)

I could hear the air running through the skimmer over the pump. Just another option ;)

I got it all straightened out and it is working like a champ again.
The adjusting knob on the pump were the vent hose attaches was plugged up with calcium so I used a drill bit and cleaned it out and then I went to the next size larger bit and opened it up a little more and now it is working great........ John
