I have used reg.IO in the past now with my new 90 gal reef up I went with Red Sea Coral Pro. I think that it holds some good cal. and mag numbers but it mixes really bad. Using it with RO/DI water. Anyone else feel this way or is it just me? Looking to switch any sugestions?

When you say it mixes bad, how long are you talking? Are you looking for an instant mixing type of salt? I let my salt water batch mix for no less than 24 hours.

Many people knock "higher" quality salts that are used to IO because they "mix" slowly. Thats only because you can dump IO into the bucket not even stir and its dissolved. That is because it has so little MG and other essential components in it! IO knows that many hobbyists esp. beginners want a salt that mixes ver quickly and easily so they cut out what they can to achieve this.
Heck I still stir by hand, and my Red Sea mixes in, in about 5 minutes of good vigorous stirring! Of course I let it stand for awhile but it is more work than IO.

Sometimes in life its worth working for something that is better.

    Happy mixing!

I was using i.o reef and my sister got me red sea coral pro and it does mix slow but i let it set for 48 - 24 hours with a power head and heater. I can say that i have seen a change for the better JMO.

I know what you are saying about IO mixing so easily but I have run a powerhead in a bucket with a heater for 8 hours let it sit for another 15 to 20 and then take a clear glass scoop some water and can see all sorts of stuff floating in it. Plus bottom of the bucket has a little salt that never mixes. Just got some Tropic Marin pro reef hope this is a little better sure costs enough!

I would like to put D-D's new H2Ocean Mg pro plus out here, I've been using it for a little while, just set up my 18 gallon with it and i love the numbers I get. Best of all, i have yet to find a really bad batch, like Ca too high or whatever, very consistent with very good numbers.

The salt that never mixed is very likely a precipitate of calcium carbonate... Are you aerating the water thoroughly for 24 hours BEFORE adding the salt? If not, that is very likely why you have some that never mixes. I use Coral Pro, and have had none of the issues that you pointed out. I'm certainly not saying that you are making it up, I just wanted to point out that I aerate the water with a powerhead and bubbler in a rubbermaid container for 24 hours, and then I mix the salt in, and let it mix for another 24-48 hours. I used to have precipitate forming on the bottom of my mixing container, until I started aerating the water first.

I have been using Tropic Marin Pro and I usually to let it sit for 24 hours but if I want to use in 5-10 hours there is no residue at all. I have a maxi jet 1200 in there to mix. I also have never waited 24 hours before adding the salt. I put in the water, plug in the powerhead and add the salt. My tank looks good so Im sticking with it. I have used Red Sea Pro and yes you do get some salt remaining in the bottom of the bucket. Red Sea is also about $30 less than Tropic Marin Pro

I use red sea coral pro and it works great. I use a drill with a tool that I cobbled together using an old rubber mixing spatula attached to a new piece of hose attached to a piece I stick in my drill and mix it in about 10 min. Normally I can stick the 5g jugs outside and let them warm. Since I am getting a 265g tank soon I am goin to get a clean 55g drum and start using it to mix my water, salt, cal, buffer this way I can have my R/O run direct.
