hey guys im runnning a red sea max 130 its been going a while and i dont have any problems but i was curious about ways i could add filtration i was thinking of a canister filter but losing all the filter sponge and adding loading it with some form of bio material such as ceramic noodles. would this be a bad idea? would it benifit in anyway

anything that adds to your water volume is a good thing, as for a canister make sure you do weekly maintnens, canister filters are known as nitrate factories. swich out the carbon for some rubble rock if you could.

I have a 10 Gal sump/fuge on my RSM with chaeto, sand bed, and LR rubble. I have my skimmer located in the sump as well. I don't have any mechanical filtration at all and my water is crystal clear, even better than my 110 Gal.

My overflow is a Lifereef, the guy does very nice work and I also bought the modified cover from him. I'll post some pics of my setup from home later.

I did the DIY sump/fuge on a 10 Gal tank I already had and some Acrylic from HD. It's really easy to to. I have a coralife 65 skimmer which I used as a HOB on my sump to clear up space in the 10 Gal. I had a sand bed and chaeto with copepods growing like crazy, I also has LR rubble in the inlet chamber. I was getting a lot of algae growth in the sump and it was a PIA to clean so I stripped all of it out. I didn't realize how important this sump had become until I had removed it. It's a good thing I didn't throw the tank out because I miss having it so it's going back.
