So I like the red sea max and its been running for quite some time. I just added the first fish to it and realized something after making into a coral and fish tank. The problem is the filteration and skimmer suck. Is there a sump that can be used or that can be made for these tanks and can you upgrade the skimmer? I have been unsucessful finding anything on it. I guess im so used to the 220 and 150 that these little guys require much more attention. The skimmer works on it but not good enough and if I added a sump I could also increase the water volume and make it seaier to keep. We added this tank to the thearter room and have loved it but the algae is over taking from fish waste and what not. I only have 3 small fish in there. Any nano guys have some good advise?

ahhh welcome to nano/small volume tanks. i think tunze makes a skimmer that fits it. you could a canister filet/chiller a sump would be more difficult and i am sure you would have to move it in order to have one. i am running a stock rsm. just know its limits.

i only have 3 fish in mine. big blue, a six line, and a pj cardinal. 40-50lbs lr and mostly soft coral it can handle most lps or maybe a monti cap up high. there are no doubts you can make them look pretty good stock! you can get a metal halide retro but its stupid expensive. the only down side i can see from them is they cant be open top if you choose. (design of the tank/hood) what are your water params like? if those are in check/stable light and flow are the only things really to be considered with coral choice. again they are limited in the fish choice available but that goes with all nanos.
