So Im upgrading tanks, and getting my fish from a 34g red sea, to a 90 gallon reef tank.

My red sea has an absolutely horrible protein skimmer, but everything else is great.

    lighting system

You think this would be an alright frag tank?
How do i cycle it if i dont have LR? or do i need LR?

    Is that lighting enough?

You'll be good with softies, and you should be alright with a lot of sps. The big problem that you would see if you tried to do soft and SPS coral is flow. SPS likes lots of flow while most softies get pretty ticked off with to much flow.

Well i have 2 power heads that create some major flow! i dont know the GPH but they are great.

So what about the live rock thing? I was thinking about doing a crate sort of thing in the tank, but im going to need some sort of rock, and live sand right?

    Thanks.

So when you say crate I am picturing the typical setup with the egg crate being propped up and the frag pegs going in there. You do not have to have live sand in there if you don't want to, I've seen many frag tanks without live sand and they grow out great. My display tank is BB with no problems for any of my corals.
It also sounds like you have the 34g currently running with fish, if so then the tank will already be cycled.
If the tank was not cycled then yes it will need cycling, and adding some lr will help in the process. If you do have another tank running you could also use some of the water from that cycled tank to speed things up.
I hope this answers your questions, if not I can go into detail for you. The main thing to remember is to test the water and make sure your parameters are good before running the frag tank.

I was just currious if i needed rock and or sand.
Because i will be removing the fish, and possibly the rock into a new tank.
