Hey guys i am new here i recently set up a 34 gallon Red Sea Max aquarium with a new Marineland 32980 lighting systems (1-150W 20000K MH, 4-T5HO athnics and 2 led's). My greates problem is the lighting schedule for when these lights should come on and for how long. Becasei i have been searching for a while now and are getting that the MH should be on for aprox. 10 hrs but they have a 10000K bulb would it make a different if i have a 20000K bulb. Also that my athnics should come on an hour before and stay on an hour after the MH. Is all this true. Thanks is advance.

Oh Yea, the tank has been running for 2 days now with freshly mixed Instant Ocean saltwater and 40 lbs of live argonite sand it there, and it is all now settling down.

Hi and welcome to 3reef. Because this is a new tank you definitely want to limit your lighting period. Ideally you wouldn't want to run the lights at all during the cycle because of all the nuisance algaes that can grow during this time. As far as lighting duration alot depends on the inhabitants but I would run the MH'S for no longer then 9 hours(I do eight) with the actinics coming on an hour before and shutting off an hour after. Heres a good link that discusses color temperature of your bulbs.
