red sea max question??

    Took the plunge yesterday and bought my and my boyfriends first Aquarium a red sea max 130L.
    Joined the forum to get some tips. The shop assistant told us that the filter wasn't necessary? and want a second opinion? why would it be part of the package if it's not needed?
    Any help would be greatly received..

    filter :confused: do you mean the skimmer, you will prolly be needing that .Im about 100% sure you will.;)

    Well no not the skimmer cup the shop assistant meant the carbon and biological and the coarse filter material that is given with the set.
