    I finally got a Mg test. ;D

I *think* my number is 1330. After 3 attempts. :p

I have a few questions as this is the most complicated test I've encountered so far for my tank.

I think to answer my questions will take a bit of time and typing. So definite Karma to whomever takes the time to answer them.

    1. Solution A, green. This one had a crust 'sealing' the lid. Dried leakage? Normal? Beats me. I wiped it away so it wouldn't get in the vial.

    2. My next question is around the smaller syringe. I evidently can not fill it up to the 1.0 line because of an air bubble because of the little plastic needle thing.

2a. So am I suppose to leave the plastic needle attached while I add solution C to the vial, so that I get a proper measurement; or is it other way, I need to remove it to get proper measurement? I think leave it on. That's how I did it.

2b. Any tips on getting it out of the syringe one drip at a time? Jeeze, my fingers don't want to do this!

2c. Reading the little 'tip' card that came with it. Should I fill the syringe so that the liquid or the rubber thing comes up to .8? Because of the bubble, those are different spots.

2d. The math. Assuming 2a and 2c answered, I am now accurately at .8ml.
I then squirt in .4 - which would take me to .4 on the syringe. It's at this point I add drop by drop (ugh) until I get to blue and a new number on syringe.
Let's say this number is .04 (I think that's right, the first line under the half mark under .1). Am I correct in that would mean I used .76? Which translates into 1520 Mg measurement? In this example anyway.

I'd need the earlier question about leaving plastic needle attached answered to trust my math in 2d.

    Thanks.

I know for my Tropic Marin test you leave the plastic tip on and when you fill the syringe you go to the stopper line NOT the liquid line, this accounts for the liquid in the plastic tip.

    Hope this helps.

Did you leave the needle on? In regards to the "crust" how old is the kit? Red Sea has a date code on the bottom.

I did leave the needle on. I will check the code on the bottom when I get home.

Does my math look right? I want to be able to trust I'm doing it right so I don't over or under dose Mg.

I am also curious. I exaggerate the bubble when filling the syringe.
Example only. I measure to the liquid.

    From what DrFrag said,

And assuming you have a little plastic tip thingy attached (can't see bottom)

I'd say in your pic, mission, you would have *more* than 30ml and have whatever measurement would be up at the bottom of the rubber thing, around 35ml. Apparently, the bubble = the tip thingy - which makes sense to me.

If you do not have the tip thingy, then I'd say you have 30ml exact.

At least that's how I understand DrFrags comment above.

But I'm just basing that on replies in this thread - I don't know for a fact that is correct. But makes sense to me. If I had something else that measures such small quantities I could figure this out, but I don't have a measuring cup that small.

No plastic thingy attached. And I draw air into the syringe before liquid.
