Same question for nitrate. Or is there an even better option?

Just thinking out loud, but I like the prospect of Red Sea offering refill reagents.

Hanna Checker for Phosphate & Red Sea for Calcium.

If you want very accurate Phosphate readings check out the Hanna ULR Phosphorous Checker. It will read ppb vs ppm.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the Hanna Checker yet.

    Hatch :)

Sorry, not familiar with the RS or Salifert. I think they are newer. Usually we want to keep our tanks under about .03 ppm (mg/L) P04. The only one I know of that is shown to do that is the Hatch kit. Although, others such as the Hanna 736 advertise to do so (at least under ideal lab conditions).

If the RS or Salifert advertise to do so, then perhaps they are fine. I am just not familiar with them yet...

Another vote for the hanna checkers.
However, red sea sells an "algae control kit" for around $50 that has both a nitrate and a phosphate test, so that would certainly be a cheaper option.
