Anyone else have this unit? Although this is my first protein skimmer, I feel it was a complete waste of money. I find myself trying to find a sweet spot on this flow valve daily! Not to mention, it is fairly loud and I really don't think it is all that efficient compared to some of the other skimmers that are out there.:-/

I cant say that I have this unit but I think your spot on about the negatives on it....unfortunately I fell into the group of people that have bought the SeaClone (a.k.a Sea Clown lol) but I've made some mods to mine in the mean time to help a lil. After being on this forum I've learned that your gonna have to spend some money when it comes to a skimmer to get a decent one that you wont regret but I heard it is worth the money. So if it makes ya feel any better I'm stuck w/ a low end skimmer now till I get some more money. But if it bothers ya that much...do some reseach....and find a better one maybe a Octopus or Aqua C or if u really want to spend money try a Tunze. Try some of the sponsored sites on here like reefgeek, or ebay, or the classifieds on the forum. In the meantime, try to dial the skimmer in for now to collect some waste.

ive had one sinse i started my tank and cant say ive ever had problems with it
as for the sweet spot it will need breaking in and then in the uture it will be open full as mine is.mine only ever gets noisey when i dont flush all the air from the pick up but this is fixed by pinching the tube for a minute or two.

cant really compare to anything else tho as this is all ive used.

I've used both the regular and the Pro and didn't like either.

I have had the skimmer about a year now and once I passed the break in period the maintenance for this unit only seemed to increase. I have a lot of problems finding the sweet spot and then once I do, I can come back a a few hours later and it isn't bubbling over anymore. When I started the hobby a year ago I think the guy at the fish store didn't want to scare me off with high priced filters and skimmers so he pushed the lowest priced skimmer and filter he could find. You get what you pay for I guess ;D Now that I know more about salt water aquariums, I am slowly realizing I need to redo my entire system.

I used this skimmer on a 35G for a few years and it seemed to work Ok for me but when I upgraded to a 65, I switched to a aqua c remora and once it broke in , was a far superior skimmer IMO - only issue is it is louder than my prizm was (and that was loud too)
