I have a yellow belly blue hippo who has been looking thin and weak lately. I haven't been feeding as much as I probably should. I was doing a cube of frozen food(mixed everything) flake food and some red sea veggies. I stopped using the sea veggies cuz they would break apart in the tank and get tiny pieces everywhere. IS this normal for this seaweed? Also any suggestions on how to get some meat back on him. Im gonna double his portions

you can give him romaine lettuce, nori sheets, brocolli, and from a post today carrots?

I alternate between romaine lettuce, nori sheets and seaweed sheets on a clip daily. I place the clip away from the force of the flow (usually in the middle of hte tank) and all my fish devour it.

It is normal for the algea to break up and float..but if I remember right sea veggies are little strips instead of a sheet. IMO sheets do better and romaine does the best.

You can also take sheets and strips and rubber band it to a rock.

You might want to go ahead and treat him for worms also.....sometimes when a fish continually looses weight despite him eating he might have a tape worm or something. I had a pink spotted goby that had tapeworms....I dosed my tank with prazipro, used metrodiazole and focus in the food.

I would keep a clip of nori or other seaweed in the tank 24/7. Tangs are continuous grazers and should have something to nibble on at all times.

I wouldn't give him romanian lettuce right now. at .2 cal per gram it won't fatten him up very fast. Nori or Seaweed sheets are better alternatives for your tang IMO (I am not familiar with red sea veggies but it is probably good as well). Once you have some meat on him again you can start to mix romanian lettuce in the routine if you want.

The seaweed I give my tang/rabbitfish always break up and float around the tank... mostly because the dang rabbitfish eats right by the clip and lets the rest of it float off.

Thanks for the info guys. I put a sheet of seaweed on the clip today and he didn't want any. I'll see later when I get home if he has been eating it. I'll also treat for worms. He isn't looking good. He is starting to hang out by a rock and lean against it
