So here is my plan to rid my reef of red slime algae.
    1. I have cut back on feeding.
    2. I have turned up the flow on my Ecotech's.
    3. I changed out my old t5s.
    4. Did a large water change last week.

Now for my thoughts on the next few steps I want to run by you guys. I would like to try a 2 day black out with ultralife red slime remover. Turn off skimmer and carbon for the first 24 then turn on carbon and skimmer and carbon. Do a 15% water change on day 2. Day 5 do follow up dose of ultralife redslime remover with lights on. Turn off skimmer for 24hours. Turn off carbon for 12 hours. Then turn on carbon and run gfo in my two phosban reactors. After all of this I understand that this ultralife redslime remover is nonselective so I have been thinking about adding microbe-lift select after all this to bring back good bacteria.

If anyone has done a process like this and has had good or bad results please let me know. Just looking for some input on how to get rid of this evil red stuff. Oh I am planning on changing about 30 gal of water through all of this is that to little or to much on a 70gal system?

read that, but sounds like a good plan! I hear conflicting things about the black out but sounds good! Def more flow and less food!

Warning about microbe left! It smells [bad] Dose before you can leave for awhile! AND DO NOT GET YOUR NOSE NEAR IT! smelled it before the odor had got out and it stuck with me for awhile! I just had a little issue and while just using microbe lift hasn't cured it, it sure helps! Just gotta do another dose!

    good luck

Skip the red slime remover and do a three day blackout with the rest of the things you mention.;)

I know some people are anti-chemical, but I just used Chemiclean Red Slime Remover about a week ago.
It worked great... Everything was gone within about 36 hours.

I used 2 airstones through the process, and then did about a 35% WC after 48 hours.
I left the lights on for maybe 6 hours a day while I did it, took out the carbon, turned off the skimmer, and didn't feed.

Within a day after the WC, all the corals were back to normal, and nothing was wrong with the Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate/Calcium/KH/Mag etc.

Because I was a little worried that the bio-filter could be destroyed or damaged, but no ill-effects, only clean white sand

Lets go back to the SAT’s for a moment.

Chemicals are to red slime as tic tac's are to bad breath ….yes, yes I do think I am funny.

It’s not resolving the underlying problem, its making you feel good since you can’t see it but the cause is more than likely still in effect.

Vinny & Cosmo dropped good sound posts ….. good luck

Well just a quick up date I followed throught with my plan so far. I have done one water change so far and I am in the process of wet skimming. The red slime remover does make a lot of bubbles. More bubbles more skimming I guess. Tank look much better already. I found the cause of the nutrient spike in the tank while cleaning and changing the water I had three snails die for some reason and they were in a hard spot to see in the reef. I will try and post some after pictures. No before pictures. It trust me it was not good. Anyways I will try and keep this updated untill it's done. I hope this might help someone in the future.

I have used Red Slime remover before and it didn't cause bubbles. That is interesting. Next time, I would probably forgo the chemicals, and just look for the cause. That is just me though.

Kinda wish I got my step stool out earlier to see the part of the tank where the snails were. Next time no chem route will be what I try
