Well for some reason I have been getting red slime on my rocks and sand the past couple of months. I go in about every two days to blow it off the rocks. I have had rowa phos remover in for about 3 months and added about 15 blue legged crabs and the problem is still there. Now I am getting gha on my return lines and on my power heads. I have a 65 deep tank with 4 return lines and one koralia 2 and one koralia 750. I will be adding a skimmer for the first time this week (just waiting on ups). I think the problem lies with my lights. They are a 4 bulb Tek fixture that sits about 10 inches above the water. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to get rid of this annoying algae problem.

Do you have a GFO/Phosban reactor? That would definitely help with the algae.

the skimmer will help a ton, how old are your bulbs and what temp are they? also what is your lighting schedule like? and how often do you change your rowaphos? also as i always suggest try running purigen

I don't know how well rowaphos works outside of a reactor. It probably does still do something, but not nearly as well as in a reactor. I haven't had phosphates at all since I put in a reactor on my tank.

Ditto, the skimmer will pull alot of excess nutrients out of the water column, which will help quite a bit in starving the algea.

How old is the tank? How often do you feed? Over feeding is a big cause of nuisance algae.
