Okay I just had an outbreak of cyno in my tank. I had someone who didn't listen to directions and screwed up my tank. So I corrected what was done and am now treating with Red Slime Remover. It's making my skimmer go crazy. So what I need to know is if anyone else that has used this product, did you turn off your skimmer? I'm dying to hear, much thanks.

I thought I read that you were supposed to turn off the skimmer and remove any carbon based filtration when treating the tank.

That's correct. Both the skimmer and carbon will remove the antibiotic (aka Chemi-Clean and Red Sea's Red Slime Remover) from the water.

Its just simple tetracycline the antibiotic and that will cause the skimmer rot go crazy. I just treated a reef for oodinium and the skimmer ran over into the catch jug and dumped a couple of gallons onto the floor. I forgot to cut the skimmer back. ):

I had some red out- an antibiotic type red slime algae remover- the instructions said to remove carbon, aireate the water and YOU MUST USE A SKIMMER, that never gave me the results I wanted so I used chemi-clean- its instructions so remove charcoal and NO SKIMMING, so I guess it depends on the type you use- read and follow directions. As far as the skimmer it reacts to almost any chemical you add to your tank but it is temporary.
