You can get ChemiClean It is a red slime remover, keep your nitrates and phosphates in check......If you have a fuge or sump you can go to John Maloney at ReefCleaners.org | Clean Up Crews and Macro Algae - Home and get a load of Cheato to help with the Nitrate problem. And also a user here called Tangster builds gadgets to keep the nitrates in check. I would do both if I had the money. They have the answers to your problem...Good Luck and welcome to the reef...its a great place...

Since a fellow member URGED me to be redundant, I will do so :D...

Cyano can be rectified a few ways.. But one must remember that it is a natural progression in the tanks maturation... That said thats get to the point.

MAIN THING!! Limit nutrients, both PO4 and NO3... Many times the cyano uses these organics so fast our tests do not show they are in the water... They aren't because as soon as the detritus or what have you decomposes the cyano uses it. Where does cyano show up? Rocks and sand... Why? Thats where detritus accumulates.. Why does it accumulate there? Lack of water movement... That brings up the next point...

Water flow.. Not only will this prevent detritus from settling it will prevent the cyano from getting a foot hold... I can guarentee that if you have cyano you DO NOT have enough flow. Increase the flow with PHs and you will see marked improvement!

Elevated pH... The use of elevated pH(8.2 or better) has been shown to positively counteract cyano. The use of kalkwasser will help but this also has another side effect. Calcium hydroxide(kalk) will precipitate out PO4 when slowly dripped into the tank! Thats a good thing!

Carbon... Carbon will pull out organics that your skimmer can't always get... Use it, if its old(month or so) replace it!!

Skimmer... Make sure yours is working properly!! Clean it, if it is working it will be pulling out organics before they can break down!!

Water changes... This kind of goes with the first one but I forgot it. DO THEM!!!! USE RO WATER!!! When you do the WC siphon out the cyano, and as much detritus as possible. Go to the grocery store and get a turkey baster, blast the rocks when you do the WC and siphon out the junk the shoots from the rock!!

Good luck, if I forgot something... Sorry, someone will remember for me! ;)
