For about a week after I first set my tank up there was something like that on my glass. It was orange rather than red, about 1 - 2inches long and moved to a slightly diff position every day (didn't get bigger though). Was only there for about a week. Never seen it since. I assumed it was some type of algae, but could well be wrong?

I'd say scrape it off the glass and be done with it, but have no idea from your pic what it is. When in doubt, throw it out.

I was at my local fish store and they had some in a tank. Not sure if it was on purpose but they had them.
