    It is male.


    Females of this species are rarely sold, if even impossible to come by for sale. They are very pale versions of the male. Most of the time not collected because they desire of their purchase and ownership is a very very small percentage.

    What's the "pretty much" part? They find the holes, eventually. Ask me how I know... ::)

    My tank is acrylic and I have the two little open holes on top to access the inside. I cover both of those with pieces acrylic but I do leave a little 1/4 inch gap to on each lid, to let some air get in for gas exchange.

    That's interesting, because the online retailers like liveaquaria don't guarantee a male or female... they're on sale right now, and am really tempted to order one, but don't want to get a drab female.
