OK going to do a water change today (30%) but saving the old water since it's actually in pretty good shape.

Since I'm moving this tank on Sunday, I want to use as much of the previous water as possible. It is very low in nutrients and I have been feeding super light, so this should be just fine.

Kinda nuts moving all these frags and small colonies for a 6-9 hour journey. Did I also mention we are taking a 3 year old son and a 3 week old daughter lol!!!???

Man, as I sit looking at this tank, it's never looked nicer.

I sure hate to tear into this thing, rip it apart, and move it to another state.

But the good news is, as soon as I am comfortable with the alk levels of my 45g cube (all new cement based rock) I'm putting most of these in it. I fully expect this to be the coolest reef I've ever had. I'll use this 11g as a display/frag tank (no eggcrate lol, I have a nice shelf rock for frags made from arago-crete).

OK folks day 11 since the move, and things have gone pleasantly well.

I have only lost a few photosynthetic gorgonians, which were a bummer because two of them were given to me by two very good friends..... but really everything else seems fine, amazingly!!!!

teee heee heee..... I just found local wild peppermint shrimp ;D;D;D

I searched this area for years trying to find them, and yesterday I went to a spot I've been to 20 times before when I caught nothing but grass/glass shrimp, and this time around I came home with 9 peppermints.

One of them was MONSTROUS, it was the size of an adult cleaner shrimp, but it didn't survive overnight. I suspect it was just too elderly.

Either way I have a pile of modest sized ones that should do fine. They will do wonderfully in my 45g once I get it set up.

I have a small school of striped kilifish (Fundulus majalis) in quarantine right now. Very hyperactive little fish, kinda like zebra danios for a reef/marine tank.

Lol have all the beer you want just stay sober. The reason I don't drink isn't because of any certain commandment but instead it's to keep a clean reputation and stay above reproach. My dad was a raging alcoholic and it ruins your credibility, not to mention being an idol.

Scored a big freebie today at the new cabinet shop I work at (where I worked before I went to grad school).

They have some solid, 1" thick black PVC sheet that I'm going to make a false bottom out of for my other tank (a 23" cube). I'm going to cut it to fit perfectly into my tank, and then hollow out the center underside of the PVC slab with a router so that my big, tall stack of rockwork will not put weight on the center of the tank, but rather distribute more around the edges of the glass.

My stand wraps around my tank and conceals the bottom 1.5" of the glass so that the substrate is concealed. Thus the tank will basically be a "bare bottom" tank. I intend on having no substrate except perhaps a dusting of crushed coral.
