So I took the plunge today! I am getting rid of the canister filter on my 120g and adding a sump in its spot! ...

Thankfully my Coralife 220g Skimmer Can switch into a sump skimmer from HOB! Assuming I still have the other parts... (I think I do...)

Anyways Ordered a Mag 9.5 Pump. A U-Tube for the return and an Esshops 800 Overflow box! Gonna get the rest of it and the tank When everything arrives!

Hopefully you will all answer any questions I have as this gets set up. I am so new to this and quite scared actually!

From My understanding of reading threads and such. The overflow box will pull water in , down the tube into the skimmer, the skimmer will then put the water in the tank... where it will travel into the Mag Pump up back into the tank.

Any Help will be greatly appreciated!

Sounds about right to me. :) You've got nothing to worry about.

    What about a refugium?

That will be a project for a later time. I only have room for a 20g sump right now under the stand. I might have to do a Display fuge :(

With the sump is there anything that can go in there? besides the equipment?

mangroves in egg crate stands - I have seen them in some fugeless sump builds

Im not sure on your overflow going all to skimmer to be honest
I used to T off and only send some water to the skimmer

you may have it right and I may have been wrong
but set up like that you would have a Mag 9 driving your skimmer although I appreciate there is power loss due to the piping its travelling up, so you dont get the full amount of flow down the overflow that a Mag 9 generates, but IMO, it might be to much for the skimmer and if it all goes to skimmer , you have lost the means of fine tuning

in my old set up, I could adjust the tap and send more or less water in the skimmers direction until I got the foam production I wanted

That could be a possibility T'ing it off for adding just water to the sump. I do have a set from my canister that could possibly work. It came with a T in case you wanted to run the canister to a HOB filter. The Skimmers Pump is Rated between 500-750 depending on how ran. The Mag Pump I got is rated max 975gph... Overflow is rated 800gph. I plan to put in a Check valve as well. When I get that far.

That's when I got mine. But even if it isn't, Brian said the normal price was only 40 bucks...so not bad.
