Just be sure to watch your parameters closely and cut back on feeding for a while after you do so. Having some Prime or other ammonia detoxifier should be purchased just in case.;)

wow, I'm sorry I missed this when it was occurring. Marshall and SK are both very helpful and knowledgeable people. I know Sanjay from many years back on a forum called fishroom. I have been to RC and this forum in terms of being helpful and nonjudgmental is the best!

Back to the OP, it sounds like you're doing all of the right things. FWIW, 20 is not a super high nitrate reading. If you clean your canister more regularly and vacuum sections of your substrate during water changes, you should be able to keep them in check. I have a combination of CC and aragonite sand in my tank and like it. I do have to vacuum it though because it does build up detritus.

You can also find a mod you can do on the seaclone to increase it's production if you're a handy person. I remember seeing one on this forum. Is your tank a reef or FO?

I'm sorry I had forgotten that. I should have looked back before I posted that information. Oops....further edit. Vinny already told you to remove the canister and that does make the most sense. Do you have some good powerheads that can pick up on the flow lost?

In my previous post, I was thinking you were trying to keep what you had.......
