I currently have a Pink Tail. He has been a model citizen only taking out snails and crabs if I drop them into the tank and have then sink to the bottom. If I place the snails on the rock or sand he doesn't bother them.

Most Triggers are not reef safe because they will feed on inverts and tend to pick up corals and carry them around.
If you are looking for coral I would try some soft corals. Mushrooms, Zoa, Leathers

I had a pink tail that I just loved.Put him in my reef and all was good for about a month. Then one day he decided to just start biting chunks of my huge monti cap into pieces. He was not eating it just looked like he was doing it for fun.Needless to say he went back to the lfs.

    I have the lighting for it...dual 250w MH and 4 65w PC's.
I guess it will be trial and error....an expensive way to keep the wife and child happy.

I should tell them it would be cheaper to buy a new tank than to risk the loss of coral and other inverts and fish.

I dont think that would fly though...my wife knows what these things go for...on and on and on and on and on......

So I guess I just have to try a few you mentioned and hope for the best.

I personally have a picasso trigger in my tank with zoas, a kenya tree, a mushroom, a trumpet coral, and a few leathers and he want nothing to do with any of them. On the other hand my former puffer was starting to demolish them so he is no longer in the tank.

Man, that is going to be one aggressive tank..and the maroon clowns will be the bully! ::)

Again I have to agree with the others, no reef tank will work with those guys.

It funny but the maroon clown are so low key...they just hang back in a cave and you actually hardly ever see them.....only during feeding time.

They seem the nicest of the fish in this tank!

That's reefing for you, those with the worst rep will be models citizens and those with the best will be the worst. Good luck with whatever you decide.

the blue throat I believe is reef safe, none are invert safe, the only fish that are safe are ones that are substantially bigger than the trigger in question

This is correct, all the triggers from the Xanthichthys genus are considered "reef safe", although no fish is 100% reef safe. The Xanthichthys triggers have an upturned mouth not made for eating corals.
