    Hi Everyone
I am new to saltwater aquariums. I have today mixed synthetic salt and water into my tank. Hoping everything goes ok so i can add live rock next week. Does anyone know how important a skinner box is. ;)
    Thanks
    Wazza

If you mean skimmer, It is probably the most important piece to your tank for pulling waste. And welcome

i think he means a overflow box, it takes water from the very surface of the tank were saltwater tanks tend to build up a film, and then transfers it to the sump where a filter of some sort removes it. its helpful but not that important.

if you do mean protein skimmer i would say that is extremely important and you must make sure you get a good one

skimmers can be critical, and if they are (which they will be in anything larger than a nano) they are the most important piece of equipment in the tank. If you're doing anything >35 gallons look for a skimmer.

I should point out that that advice is rapidly becoming antiquated as skimmers for nano/pico's become available.

Skimmers function very much like the beach in cleaning out foamy garbage on the top surface of your aquarium. Feel free to think of your next trip to the beech as a trip to the nearest reef's anus. Shocking, but true!

(I'll still be going, though not for the sand, but the bikinis that inhabit it!;D )

Welcome. The 3 skimmers I always recommend are the Octopus Skimmer, the Bullet Skimmer, and the Coralife Superskimmer. Bakpaks have also been known to work pretty well. You may see the berlin skimmer or some other like it around, but they are outdated.
