I love sand sifting stars or cucumbers. I can't remember where I read but it was saying sand sifting starfish also eat the micro fauna and when it's gone they start dying off. That was a one time deal so I don't know how true that is or isn't.

I've heard the same thing about sand sifting stars. They are scavengers so I can completely see where they would do so. Otoh, cucumbers stick to the surface, and IME, don't bother anything that won't rebuild. I look at them sort of like lawn mowers for the sand.

If or when my tank matures I will be adding a couple to the tank.

I should take my own advice and get a couple. My sand looks like crap. In the middle of collecting components for an algae scrubber...

I thought about one of those on my tank.

Yeah, never tried one before. Hoping it helps clean my tank up though. Had a massive algae bloom and took me a while before I realized the fuge light had died so... guess we'll see.

So what are you working on now? Did you get the paint or whatever down on the floor yet?

My thing is how big I need to make it, the size pump to run it and how many lights to light it with.

I finished the floor before I went out of own this weekend. Next project will be building the stand. I just need someone who can cut my boards the same size. My eyes aren't what they use to be. Probably start the stand this week.

I've only heard the SSS thing on this forum. I've had a good sized one in my 125 reef for quite a while now. I can't see them moving around enough to kill off all of the "microfauna" in a whole tank, IF they even eat it at all. They just take their time moving from spot to spot. One or two in a tank your size would do great.
