    I know it may sound like overkill, but I would put one every 16" - 24".

    Chunks of blocking and screws are cheap and much easier to install now. ;D

    I'm no Carpenter but i think he's good. Pretty sure he followed a plan so... 2x8s can hold alot!

    Oh you were talking about the horizontal bracing weren't you? Yeah not like it would hurt anything or be in the way. Though I still think he's probably ok. *disclaimer, I am by no means a structural engineer so don't listen to me*
