Yeah, the cross bracing does two things. It keeps the 2x8 beams from twisting, but it also acts as a spacer and won't allow the beam to deflect left or right. In a sense, it makes all four beams act like a solid piece.

IMO, I would put two more blocks in each of the outside spaces at the 1/4 and 3/4 spots for a total of 3 in each (already have one in the 1/2 spot). The center space is probably good with the two that you have.

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks. I will add the other pieces.

    No worries.

BTW, will the tank sit in the middle of the room where the stand currently sits?

Yessir it will. All the filtration will be under the tank. It will be a full 360 degree viewing tank.

Will you be putting down 3/4 plywood and Styrofoam for the tank to settle down on? Not sure if that's necessary for an acrylic tank but I've read they suggest that for a glass tank of this size. Helps even things out since there is a bit of flex in a tank that size.

My intentions were just to use 3/4" styrofoam on the top of the stand. Should I use both?

Honestly I'm not sure. My thinking would be that is probably not necessary with an acrylic tank but wouldn't hurt. Maybe someone with more experience with acrylic tanks this size can chime in for us.

    That would be greatly appreciated.
