    Might be overkill, but it's cheap, easy insurance at this point. :)

    Looks good. Yes I'd screw the sheet of wood down to the stand. At least that's how mine is.

    One every 16 or 24" around the perimeter and in each joist will tie it all together nicely. Every 24 would probably be the easiest way. 16 is probably a little excessive.
