Hey Thor. I tested my alk with salifert and Hanna and they were both only off .1 ppms. I think my co2 did me in as my pH also dropped. As for my salt, I mix 200 gallons at a time and then I dose my mixing barrel to my tanks parameters i.e.

    Calcium ~ 420 ppm
    Magnesium ~ 1350 ppm

The alk constantly mixes at 9.9 dKh. Considering I'm doing 40 gallon water changes every two weeks and with the calcium reactor, my levels have been consistent for the past 6-8 weeks.

I also noticed my calcium reactor was low so I added more calcium media and NeoMag to aid in my magnesium consumption also.

    Thanks again for chiming in.

do you dose alk or just use water changes on the frag tank? I'm hardly very knowledgeable about sps corals but I do read where they can absorb alk and calcium causing the need to dose....

I have a calcium reactor on my system that runs my frag and display tank. It's getting hot down here so I think that might play a roll in the drop.

Ah, right! I forgot you were running a calc reax on this system. I don't have any first hand experience with them so hopefully another reefer will chime in. It sounds entirely possible that it is related as you have pointed out.

I'm still completely jealous of your tank room :).

Glad you are feeling better too!

I live through you dude. Your tank along with others inspire me. But the tank also played a role in my recovery also. Being limited and staring in the tank is a medicine I will overdose with anytime.

Any chance your Ca reactor got plugged up?

Never thought about it. But this is also the first time I had a calcium reactor also.

Well everything has been going well as of late. But I also have been struggling with my pH. Everything else has been steady(i.e. Calcium and magnesium). So I added this to my topoff today to help out.

I also have an orange shoulder in QT that I rescued from a tank being torn down. He was pretty beat up but I think that because the owner took an hour to catch it and didn't remove any rock. He said he had him for about 2 years and he is still in juvenile stage.

Thanks V. Every other one I had in QT always succumbed to black ich or the black body patches which I think was caused by the black ich. I can't wait for it to change it's juvenile colors to adult.
