I googled it right after you mentioned it. Yes it will be a peninsula style tank. I know I want to do an island in the middle but dont know if I want to make it high or low. I love lots of flow and movement in the tank so that was also in the plan.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I will double up on the weldon 16 so make sure everything is solid.

Well that is perfect for a gyre or mass movement. And it can be done with closed loops too, it just needs to be set up that way. And while I have heard of it, I have not seen too many examples. I would think it would be hard to get a mass movement with jets coming up from the bottom... you could do something for a regular tank... like a closed loop on the back wall behind rock works with it open behind. Use the closed loop one way then switch it and the circuit would be horizontal behind the rocks.

One problem with gyres though... he was not talkng about flow in one direction. If you had a current in one direction all the time your corals would grow funny. So you need to reverse the flow.... so that means double what ever you have. And if you do closed loop that means two loops. Or if you set it up right you could use a .. what are they called, the multiple ports and switching flows folks use in closed loops???

Anyway... what I was looking at if I did a peninsula is to use 4 Votechs. Set up on both ends perhaps, 2 on one side and 2 on the other and switch off pumps catty corner to get flwo in one direction then reverse to the other pumps and reverse flow.

I sort of thought about keeping the other end clean, but it would be hard to get flow going from one pump at one corner. That is why I was going to build a tank around the flow and make it more squarish. So now there are MP60s, you could build a tank for two at one end... keep the peninsula short, but I don't think 2 would cut it for you. So you would need two on one corner, but that would be hard to put out all that flow with 2 MP60 at one corner and make it around and not stir up sand at the pumps.

But even I am a big stickler for flow in my rock work. So I would want to make sure to provide enough flow through it... was thinking how to do returns into a center island... of course a closed loop would be good for that to keep the rock work clean and then the pumps for the gyre.

With you doing a 7' tank you would have to have pumps at each end, but 2 MP60s going one way, 2 MP60s going the other, closed loop in the rock work... that would be pretty awesome. And 4 Vortechs, stiring stuff up and going crazy from time to time or doing waves, or... well tons of possibilities with that much flow and that much control.

What kind of controller do you use?

Really as far as controllers, they all do the same. I don't have anything against RKs, but sorry, Neptune is a much better end product.

Now a APEX with a WMX and Vortechs... whole other level... I mean WOW!!! Which is another reason my predominate flow would be designed around Vortechs instead of building a tank and then putting some pumps in it. On that one thing alone I go Apex every time and don't look back.

Vortech released the radio board to DA as well, but they didn't make a module for Vortech... at least Neptune was first and to my knowledge still the only.

I have to correct myself because that was the one I was referring to because I knew it had a module for votechs. But since this is a three sided viewing tank, I dont know what to do about having both vortechs on each end. You have me interested in the gyre type flow.
