I was recently considering getting a reef controller. I need to keep it under $300, so that limits me a bit. I really want it for monitoring stuff, and telling me when SHTF, even if i'm away. I would also like a wave maker capability, but that is optional. Any suggestions?

If you can do minor programming and or follow directions, consider the Reef Angel, otherwise save up for an Apex.

+1. You will be over $300 once you add in the wireless module, but you will basically be getting a complete controller for maybe $350 (8 controllable outlets, temp control, pH monitoring, ATO, wavemaker, lighting control/dimming, cell phone controls, monitoring and alerts, etc.). I have two (one on my 125 and one on my 28). I know basic programming, but by no means an expert and I have never had an issue getting them to do what I want.

An Apex Jr. might fit the bill; it's a matter of how large your tank is and how much you want the controller to do. Otherwise, I'd save up for an Apex Lite or Full.

Its just a 29 biocube, but I would like to have the controller for if I ever upgrade to a larger tank.
