Last weekend I did a 50% water change using Reef Crystals. I had never used this salt before. My alk has been chronically low but my cal and mag were always high. My cal has been well over 400 and mag usually 1600 as far back as I can remember. I tested the water on Tuesday and my cal was at an all time low of 380 and my alk is barely 8 dkh! How is that even possible? I thought Reef Crystals salt was supposed to reduce the need for cal and other dosing?

Lot of people use reef crystals. Its an ok salt. You can get by with it.

Not the best salt on the market.

I use Seachem Reef salt, dkH is always 9-10 spot on everytime.

Alkalinity of seawater is 7 dKH.

Best salt i've ever used is the D-D H20 Magnesium Pro Plus

    Good info.

What salt required the least dosing?

We've always used reef crystals. We tried H2Ocean, but didn't really like it because of the price. Our params have always been spot on with Reef Crystals, and H2Ocean was just a whole lot more money for alot less salt.

RC is a good solid salt. It will get you by with the basics and keep your params solid for most corals.
