I've been using RC saltmix for years now and never had a problem. however a few days ago I did a 20% WC from a new box of RC saltmix and the water was cloudy. My skimmer has since been acting up, lots of foam, like soap suds. It's been a few days and no change, my parms tested OK with Ca (380, usually 420-450) and Alk(6 dkh, ususlly 8-9) lower than usual. I replaced my carbon last night and slightly increased the drip rate on my Ca reactor to see if would help. I'll pickup some new test kits today too just to be sure. But none of the above explain the cloudy water, some of my corals are not opening fully either. Anyone experienced this with RC saltmix?

I always mix my makeup water a few days before a WC. I would do another WC but I'm concerned there is something in this batch of salt, I might pickup another batch from a different store.

Same here, I've never had an issue. I picked up a new batch of RC salt and did a WC about 4 hrs ago. I took a chance with the salt only mixed for a few hrs. The tank is starting to clear up, the carbon is probably helping a bit too. The skimmer is still going crazy though, the cup fills up with foam within a few minutes of turning it on, not sure what was in that saltmix, I might give RC a call.

The LFS said they got a few complains about that batch of RC salt. They were nice enough to give me store credit...

I use Reef Crystals too. They always make my skimmer go crazy for a few hours after a water change. I just elevate the skimmer until it works itself out.

Did you happen to get the lot number off the box so any one else can see if it was the salt?

every box of salt is different. when you are running out, you should slowly add in some of the salt from the new bag in with your old salt into your WC.

Make sure you shake your box/bag prior to using it because each ingredient is a different size and it all may have settled.
