In fact, not very many fish lack the capability of jumping out. IMHO, possibilities are endless, and probability is irrelevant. Every tank is different, as is the personality of each individual. I would highly recommend a cover. I use a glass top on my tanks; one only needs to ensure that it's not airtight and keep it clean. DIY mesh covers get a lot of recommendations, as well. Either one is a small price to pay for insurance against losing a prized pet.

As for fish, I love damsels. Several colorful species to choose from that are readily available. They stay relatively small, are reef-safe and very entertaining, and virtually indestructible.

thanks for all the responses everyone. I guess I will need to look into getting one of those screen kits then. They don't look as bad as i thought they would.

Evolved thanks for the link to your wrasse thread. I would like to eventually get one but all the feeding puts me off for now. Its really great information though and I bookmarked the page for when the time comes.

So is there a specific order that i need to put fish into the tank? I heard that certain fish need to go in sooner and others need to go in later due to territorial behavior.

Some of the fish I am now considering

    Fairy Wrasse
    Pair of Snowflake Clowns
An anthia, Can these be kept solo?
Possibly a watchman goby/ shrimp pair, but i am concerned about the digging and my dsb.
Maybe a Flame angel or Coral beauty

Also, I know this is a very subjective question but about how many fish can I have in a tank my size?

I'll defer to others on the wrasses and anthias - I've never kept them......usually people recommend to add clowns among the last because they can be territorial and aggressive although not as bad with the snowflakes I don't think. Personally, I think you can do your list in your 60 - You'd have to pick either or on the angels which you already know - I also think your stock list is about it as far as bioload. That's just my .02 and I tend to be on the higher end in terms of # of fish.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

I like these fish choices and feel that 5 medium sized fish would work for the size of tank.

Add the Clowns and Angel last.
The YWG and the Pistol will not burrow so deep that having a deeper sand bed would worry me.
Anthias can be kept solo, it's fish though that you will need to feed more often. Remember too that Angels will need a varied diet which will be a benefit for all the fish.

Whole heartily agree you will need a lid.

Ideally I want to keep the bioload light so I don't intend to get all of the fish i mentioned. Coral is more important to me and i would like to keep sps which means that i will obviously need to keep the very best water quality. I do want to come up with a stocking list though so I know what order to add the fish in. My only must haves are the fairy wrasse and the clowns. I am afraid to add an angel since they are known to nip corals but I am aware that it is up to the individual and the aquarist's feeding habits play a factor as well.
