Yellow tags are cool, but they can be bossy. I had a nasty one once. Tangs are likely my favorite SW fish. tons of energy and always milling about. get you a small specimen no more than 2-3" and you will be just fine. keep them fed with plenty of greens.

I have had a yellow, Scopas, ebili mimic, purple, tomini, powder brown and now have a Sohal and a Naso.

dont know what type of coral you are keeping but the Centropyge are the dwarf angels. they are very colorful and always milling about like a tang. they can eat soft corals and clams.

you could also look a the Swallow tail angels. they are fully reef safe and are always out in the open. I plan to add one to my tank.

lol I should introduce you to my yellow tang ... the guys a nazi. No one is allowed in his tank ... he goes berserk when new fish get added, especially if they go onto his half of the tank.

He wont' leave them alone for like 3 days ... and then he folds and allows them to stay. As long as they make it past the hazing, they're allowed to stay hostility free lol.

    LOL

Both my powder blue and brown tangs behave the same way... the moral is, that what ever tang you choose, start small and let it be the last fish you plan to add for a while...

You said it is a Reef, so I would warn against the Long Nose Butterfly or Dwarf Angels. We tried two different Angels, A Bicolor and Yellow, ended up having to pull both out because of coral nipping. If that doesn’t bug you, they are really nice active fish. If you have a top, a Pink Spot Goby would be fun, they are goofy. A Kole Tang doesn’t get too big, and they’ll pick away at algae.

well i ended up getting a small yellow tang. i "rescued" it from petco. hes been in the tank for 24 hrs now. he is ok but does not like when i go close to the tank yet. i know it just has to settle in more. it did find a patch of red algae on one of my rocks which happens to be in the direct flow of a koralia. it is hilarious watching the tang trying to bite the algae while fighing the strong current. i also have a clip of seaweed salad he has picked at. @ zoanthids, i know yellow tangs are great fish....but i have to say a 29 gallon is for sure too small for a tang. i would never go any smaller then a 4 foot tank.

The LFS has yellow and powder blues at around 1'' maybe a fraction smaller. I was considering one for my 29 as a last add.

I always find it interesting that people have such rigid standards for these fish, yet I go to a fish store and see them all packed into baffled tanks with swimming sections close to 12 gallons. I don't think I'll ever understand that.

PS my favorite is still the powder brown tang... far nicer then the others IMO

well with stores with any luck the fish will not be there long. my opinion on observing tangs is they are very active and like to move around alot, and a 4-6 ft tank allows that much better than a small tank. you can also look at it as any home aquarium whether 50 gallons or 300 gallons is just incomparable to the huge range the fish have in the ocean.

Best of luck with yoru Rescue. I will never purchase from them again. I bought an angel there and it looked perfect but died 3 days later from ICH. even watched it eat there.

OH well. best of luck with the yellow. give it some time and they will eat from your hand. my 3 did and so do the sohal and naso I have now.
