reef lighting question.

i currently have 4 54w t5 set up and want to add some leds from rapid. i'm getting ready to buy new bulbs and was wondering what t5/led combo would give me shimmer and pop? the 4 bulbs i was going to buy were 1 ati 12k, 2 ati blue+ and 1 purple+. my budget for leds is 250 so i was thinking 24 leds, just dont know what leds to get.

 

I would get half white and half blue on the leds.

 

LoL. I was reading and looking at the same thing for the exact same type setup this weekend. I would like to transition to a all LED setup over time as budget permits, so I would probably do a couple strings at a time fixed to my T5 setup until I have enough to go full LED. Following along.

 

I've got a 4x54w ATI Sunpower fixture.

2x ATI Blue+
1x ATI Purple +
1x KZ New Gen 14k

I opted for 12x Cree Royals attached to my fixture w/ 60* optics. It actually doesn't add all that much blue to the overall color running at 100%. Just a bit. The color looks really nice IMO. I think 50/50 blue white would offset any color difference you would see. There's a slight shimmer added with both the T5's running and LEDs, you can notice it a bit. By no means is it as an intense shimmer you would see with just straight LEDs or MH.
