T12s are necessarily stronger, but it just refers to the diameter of the bulb. T12s have a bigger diameter than T5s, I believe it's an inch. T5s are popular because you can fit more bulbs in a given space.

T5 produce more light for there size, very energy efficient although they do put out heat.

I'm currently running 4 T5 (2x actinic, 1x 22000k 1x14000k) 15 LED spot lights total of 195 LEDs, Looking to build a new lighting canopy, will reduce the number of LED spot lights only use ultrabrite LEDs and blue moonlights in the middle with 6 T5 tubes -
    1x 14000K, 1x 22000K, 3x Actinic, 1x figi purple.

I'm running 2 T5's and LED moonlights on my current 30 gallon.

My new 75 will have 6x T5 and LED moonlights to add some shimmer and for nighttime viewing.
My new 33 gallon frag tank will have 2x T5's.

Im running one 250 MH and two 96 PC's over my 40 gallon. MH gives me the power I want and the PC's lets me tweak the color.

    Im currently running a 48' Pc 260w.
On my 55. Wanting to upgrade to MH but the energy bill alone from that is out of my budget. Im happy with my Pc's, I have softies and a few sps, all doing well.

IIRC the T stands for tubular and the number is a measurement of 1/8th of an inch. IE a T5 is 5/8ths, a T8 is 1" and so on. I think T5s are also much more efficient with a higher lumens-per-watt.
Please correct me if I am wrong :)
